SHOW INFORMATION: Eurydice Written by Sarah Ruhl Directed by Nicole Neely March 31st - April 2nd and April 7th – April 9th
SYNOPSIS: Sarah Ruhl reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine. After dying on her wedding day, she must adjust to life in the underworld and make a choice that will determine her fate. In Eurydice, we explore the themes of death, love, memory, and the importance of family.
Eurydice (20’s-early 30’s): Romantic and thoughtful, she is in love with Orpheus but thinks often of her father who has passed on. Orpheus (20’s-30’s): Hopelessly romantic, incredibly musical. He travels to the underworld to rescue Eurydice. Musical ability is a plus.
Father (40’s-60’s): Lives in the underworld. Attempts to communicate with Eurydice and when given the chance, patiently attempts to rebuild their bond.
Nasty Interesting Man/Lord of the Underworld (20’s-40’s): Nasty and childish, craves Eurydice. Hates Orpheus.
Chorus of stones (3 people): Must be excellent character actors. Stays onstage always, acts as an emcee of sorts. They live in the underworld, Sarah Ruhl compares them to nasty children at a birthday party.
