SUMMARY: The Vice President of Multicultural Business Development will serve as the primary subject matter architect of Experience Grand Rapids’ diversity, inclusion and business development efforts. This includes business relevant strategic planning and associated tactics that advance the destination in these areas. Establish, implement and promote diversity and inclusion initiatives, along with advancing the message of the destination brand to multicultural audiences. Assist in the fulfillment of the mission, to create economic impact on tourism and hospitality by promoting Grand Rapids/Kent County as a diverse and inclusive destination.
Contributes to the mission of Experience Grand Rapids (EXGR): to strengthen the region’s economic vitality and quality of life by marketing Grand Rapids/Kent County as a preferred visitor destination.
Develop, implement and assess programs centered pertaining to diversity and inclusion in the community, and internally at Experience Grand Rapids. Educate and build awareness around diversity and inclusion by attending, coordinating and hosting promotional community events that relate to this mission. Develop and oversee a Supplier Diversity Program. Work with the Vice President of Sales/Service and Sr. Vice President with promoting West Michigan as a multicultural destination for both leisure visits and procurement of Meeting/Convention business. Partner with others to encourage diverse entrepreneurship and employment in West Michigan. Coordinate with Marketing and Communications to review Diversity and Inclusion messaging developed and promoted by EXGR. Develop strategic partnerships in the community, at a local and state level, to help promote the diversity and inclusion initiative in West Michigan. Assist the leadership team in furthering the mission of Experience Grand Rapids and the strategic objectives implemented by leveraging diversity and inclusion. Act as primary staff liaison for the EXGR Diversity Advisory Committee. Serve as a member of the EXGR Leadership Team. Performs other job-specific tasks as assigned by supervisor or Leadership team.
Higher Education degree is preferred. 7+ years of experience or related experience with essential duties and responsibilities. Strong organizational skills; able to envision and manage linear projects. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbally. Able to foster relationships with all levels of the community. Able to make independent decisions for functional area based on own expertise. Strong intuition and analytical skills; ability to challenge leadership. Able to take full ownership of functional area and work of team. Able to effectively delegate projects or accounts to team. Able to exercise confidentiality.
Ability to work in fast-pace environment. Frequent telephone and computer use. Use of manual dexterity required for writing and computer use.
