Sr. Laboratory Tech McKinney, Texas
Working under the supervision of the Technical Engineer or Manager, you will perform directed research/development and product testing of polymer-based mixtures and blends. Responsibilities will include formulation and prototyping work using polymer processing equipment, polymer testing, and by collaborating closely with staff engineers, process engineers, customers, and suppliers. Other duties may be assigned.
To qualify, you should hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or Physics. Experience should include hands-on work with laboratory equipment used to measure properties of liquids or solids, either in a product development, analytical services, physical testing, or quality control department. You must have utilized methods for Physical Chemistry, including spectroscopy, calorimetry, or other analytical methods of material characterization. Familiarity with standard test methods for materials (ASTM, ISO, and others), as well as experience with statistics, design of experiments, and analysis of variance are also sought. Plastics processing skills, (i.e., injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming) and specific experience with polymer additives and chemical modification of polymers, (i.e., compounding, alloying, or blending) would be highly advantageous. A background in manufacturing operations, shop-floor experience, or demonstrated capability to work with shop-floor personnel and manufacturing equipment, complemented by a keen understanding of machine operation and ability to teach others would be ideal. Application experience that includes profile or coating extrusion of plastic or elastomer materials and/or injection molding of same is highly preferred, but not necessary.
