Occupational Therapists In Your Area As an Occupational Therapist, you will assess and evaluate patients and provide skilled occupational therapy in accordance with their physician’s plan of care. You will observe, record, and report patient response to treatment and any change in the patient’s condition. Importantly, you will instruct and advise patients, families and other health team personnel regarding their roles in the plan of care. Regular assessment of the patient’s continual care needs, and referrals to other disciplines as indicated by patient needs will be performed, as well, all in conjunction with the physician. Finally, you will collaborate with other key staff assigned to your patients in order to assist with the coordination of the total plan of care, and maintain continuity of care. To qualify, you will have successfully completed an occupational therapy program at a school of occupational therapy approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association or the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association or the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Additionally, you must hold current and unencumbered license to practice occupational therapy within your assigned state. Current CPR certification will also be necessary.
