Montana State Hospital provides inpatient psychiatric treatment for adults with serious mental illness. Services include evaluation and assessment; medication management; individual and group therapy; psycho-educational programs; rehabilitation and vocational services; chemical dependency treatment; and peer support. The hospital serves both forensic and civilly committed patients, and is comprised of five different units with approximately 35 patients in each. The admitting unit receives about 50% of all admissions and is staffed by two psychiatrists and one psychiatric APRN.
Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse Warm Springs, Montana In this crucial role, you will not only provide direct patient care, but also collaborate as a provider and treatment team member in the provision of unit/hospital-specific treatment for psychiatric patients. In providing direct patient care, you will evaluate patients to identify psychiatric problems and functional deficits, after which, you will plan/prescribe patient treatment and medication administration and management. As a unit-treatment team member, you will assess patient needs for commitment and recommitment under Montana law, and direct the treatment team in the development of discharge plans, assess discharge readiness of patients, and aftercare needs. As part of the hospital’s treatment team, you will consult and collaborate with the nursing staff on progress or problems of individual patients, and promote professional development that meets current standards of facility licensure and accreditation. To qualify, you should hold a Master’s degree as an Advanced Practice Nurse and possess two years of experience providing psychiatric patient care. New grads without experience will be considered, however. Candidates should also hold ANCC certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or a Psychiatric-Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist. State licensure as an APN with prescriptive authority and an assigned DEA number are required.
