United Council seeks to empower students and other impacted communities to advocate on their own behalf and shift systems of power to create real change in the lives of young people across the state of Wisconsin. The professional staff community at United Council is expected to execute all job responsibilities through a social justice framework using restorative justice goals and principles.
United Council runs a coordinated statewide Vote campaign every two years in order to promote year-round civic engagement and increase the student share of the electorate. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Milwaukee UC Vote Organizer is responsible for the implementation of strategies and activities regarding the United Council Vote 2014 Campaign, “WI Vote 2014.” This includes campus outreach to four major campuses, leading workshops and trainings, staffing and recruiting for regional events, and helping to meet the organization’s voter registration, education, GOTV and pledge card goals.
The Milwaukee UC Vote Organizer will be expected with work with UW-Milwaukee as a base campus with frequent travel to UW-Oshkosh, UW-Parkside, and UW-Waukesha. Other campuses that may require a few visits includes UW-Madison and other southeastern UW-Colleges. This staff person will spend the majority of their time on campus with monthly visits to the Madison central office for trainings and professional development. Experience with developing leaders and training large groups of students to take part in United Council activities, particularly relating to restorative justice grassroots organizing and advocacy is preferred.
The Milwaukee Vote Organizer will be expected to be flexible and capable of adapting to fast-paced environment of non-profit grassroots organizing on college campuses. This person should develop and support the development of strategy, tactics, and messaging for United Council vote efforts on assigned campuses, and then keep detailed records of this activity to report to the Executive Director. The Milwaukee Vote Organizer will be expected to supervise paid student staff on the Milwaukee, Oshkosh, and Parkside campuses. In addition, those student staff will be expected to work directly with the Milwaukee Vote Organizer to grow a solid and well-trained team of volunteers and interns.

We are seeking an unstoppably positive, magnetic, joy-filled people-person with the proven ability to motivate volunteers and interns to activate the student membership in such an exciting and fast-paced campaign!
