Interlake Child Care & Learning Center has a unique opportunity for a part-time preschool teacher with strong leadership abilities and skills for afternoon programming. ICC&LC has over a 30 year long history and is located in the Wallingford Community in Seattle, Washington. Interlake is a progressive, unionized (with SEIU 925) child development center and is accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Our center is accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young children (NAEYC). TITLE: Preschool Teacher, Part-time (year round) Great schedule for college students!! PURPOSE: Coordinates with co-teachers to provide experientially-based learning opportunities and assist with planning and implementing developmentally-appropriate, anti-bias curricula for children 2 1/2 -- 5 years. All teachers function at a Lead Teacher level and plan curriculum collaboratively, as part of a team. REPORTS TO: Executive Director & Mentor Coordinator All staff are required to be in excellent physical health and be able to lift up to 50 pounds for moving equipment and diaper changing. Reliability is essential! RESPONSIBILITIES: -Planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum for young children -Building healthy, respectful and trusting relationships with young children and adults -Coordinating classroom tasks and environment with co-teachers -Using positive guidance methods that strengthen each child's problem-solving and conflict resolution skills -Awareness of best practices for early learners -Preserving State licensing requirements and NAEYC standards PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Provides appropriate emotional and social support for each child's development Communicates effectively with children and adults to build trusting and mutually respectful relationships (a must!) Uses positive guidance and discipline methods that strengthen each child's problem-solving and conflict resolution skills Awareness of best practices for classroom and tasks and routines Possesses personal warmth, sense of humor and approachability Successful in working in team-teaching environments Goes the "extra mile" TASKS/DUTIES: The following list of duties is intended to be representative of the work performed and is not all-inclusive. Plans and implements open-ended activities and plays key role in emergent curriculum Works with co-teachers to provide a culturally-relevant, developmentally appropriate, and anti-bias learning environment. Cleans, organizes and maintains classroom areas REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Practical knowledge of child development ages 2 1/2 -- 5 years  Group care experience in an early childhood  Team oriented  Excellent interpersonal communication skills (a must!)  Highly motivated with proven initiative and accountability  Proven initiative and accountability  20 or 30 Hour STARS Training  TB skin test  Portable Background Check  Long-term commitment to young children  Sense of humor Required Dispositions: -Excellent interpersonal communication skills (a must!) -Team-oriented -Possesses personal warmth, approach-ability, and flexibility DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: -Twenty credits in early childhood education or related field -Program planning based on Emergent Curriculum methods for children 2 1/2 -- 5 years -Continual growth and professional excellence Bi-lingual, Spanish-English or bi-cultural in Spanish a plus Musical, storytelling or drama/theatrical background would be an asset, too People of color, LGBT and others who bring diversity to our organization are encouraged to apply. SALARY: $10.00-14.00 per hour DOE with regular step increases.
