To apply, email your resume to: Job Title: Assistant Store Manager Department: Administrative Reports to: Store Manager ======================================== PURPOSE The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager implementing management decisions and goals. Through a strong commitment to customer service and the company's mission statement the ASM functions as a role model and leader. In the absence of the Store Manager the ASM serves as Acting Store Manager and assumes all Store Management responsibilities. The ASM assists in the recruitment and hiring of new staff and often acts as a trainer and coach in the daily development of staff performance. The ASM should have a good working knowledge of trends and issues in the natural food industry, as well as financial understanding of performance, budgeting, and sales goals. The ASM assists with and implements merchandising, display and product management programs. JOB FUNCTIONS Essential • Front End o Ensure adherence to good cash handling policies including change making, monitoring cashier procedures and drawer count outs, occasionally processing deposits and DSRs o Consult with Store and Department managers to devise and implement cashiering procedures that will ensure both the accurate capture of sales and positive sales growth o Providing Customer Service including processing returns and dealing with complaints or other problems o Act as Shift Leader when scheduled, facilitating the smooth operation of the sales floor by covering breaks, assigning work and otherwise directing the activities of the staff • Merchandising and Sales Growth o Troubleshoot underperformance, work with Store and Department Managers to develop and implement strategies for increased sales and maintaining margin targets o Assist in generating, hanging, or maintaining signage o Work with store and department managers to maintain and develop displays o Assist in re-sets o Stay abreast of products and industry trends. Maintain a good working knowledge of current products in all departments. Take special orders and pass long to appropriate buyer o Act as Fill-in/Substitute for buyers as needed • Staff Development o Assist in recruiting and hiring employees who will positively contribute o Train, retrain and coach staff. Work with Store Manager and Administration to develop and refine training programs as needed. o Enforce company policies and participate in the disciplinary process o Work to promote enthusiasm and teamwork among staff. o Participate in the review process o Work to resolve personnel conflicts and grievances • Office Procedures o Assist store manager with in-store generation and/or analysis of sales figures o Assist store manager with in-store implementation of necessary HR record keeping and procedures, including dissemination of information, writing incident reports, worker's comp claims, and proper handling of employee complaints or grievances. o Assist store manager in adherence to all Health and Safety guidelines as set by Company Policy (IIPP), Dept of Public Health, OSHA and any other applicable agencies. o Assist store manager in other necessary paperwork and filing as needed • Other Operations o Maintain fixtures, equipment and the physical plant o Develop and maintain systems for organization of equipment o Perform health and safety inspections and hazard evaluations o Know and train in emergency procedures and security on the sales floor Other Functions • Performs other duties assigned by Store Manager or Ownership. PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS • Ability to safely handle up to 20lb. cases, containers, and bags • Standing for up to eight hours • Job involves repetitive tasks • Exposure to food ingredients and cleaning agents • Working indoors and out, also in refrigeration JOB REQUIREMENTS: • Minimum one year Supervisory and three years Retail experience • Commitment to customer service • Working familiarity and a commitment to continued education in all aspects of natural foods retailing: product lines, merchandising, business and product trends • Understanding of retail financial operations, cash handling, sales and margin, payroll and timekeeping • Certification or good practices in safe food handling and sanitation • Ability to comprehend and assist in compliance with all regulations and policies governing operations, both from the Company and from Government agencies such as DPH, OSHA, Weights & Measures, DOL ESA (wage and hour), ABC • Familiarity with Word and Excel DISCLAIMER The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this classification; they are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.
