PLEASE INCLUDE A COVER LETTER WITH YOUR RESUME WHEN YOU APPLY Summary: The wine assistant is responsible for stocking and receiving product, helping guests with wine selections, and educating staff about the wine and beer department. Work for this position includes receiving product (wine, beer and liquor), stocking wine, beer and liquor, assisting customers, maintaining an organized backstock area, and keeping the wine section organized, and working with the grocery department to maintain a bountiful beer section.. The wine assistant should remain up-to-date on all wine information including regions, varietals, wine-making techniques (organic, sustainable, etc.) current trends, and help to disseminate this information to customers and other staff members. Job Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Maintain an organized and properly rotated wine section (shelves and case stacks) and storage spaces. 2. Ensure that all products are properly priced using a price gun. 3. Ensure that all wines have signs with the name of the wine, the region and a brief description of the product. Maintain organized storage of signage. 4. Ensure that all storage and display areas are kept clean and organized. 5. Assist customers looking for wine and other products in the store. 6. Make wine deliveries as needed. 7. Remain current on all wine-related information by attending tastings, taking notes, and asking questions. Personnel: 1. Advise the store manager of any personnel situations or policy violations that have an adverse affect on the store's operating performance and/or your ability to perform any of your duties in a timely manner. 2. Attend scheduled store meetings whenever necessary. 3. Maintain a positive and friendly relationship with owners, management team and all other staff inside the store. Security: Must be aware of the environment at all times, people coming in and out of the store and suspicious people. Advise manager on duty if necessary. Maintenance: 1. Keep wine storage areas and shelves clean and well-organized. 2. Oversee the continual stocking of wine by communicating with stockers and ASMs about keeping shelves full, new items and out-of-stocks. 3. Be aware of general maintenance issues on a regular basis and inform a manager when there are problems (e.g. refrigerator temperature too high, equipment broken). Essential Requirements: 1. Have outstanding communication skills to be used to greet and serve customers and to communicate with management and partners. 2. Be extremely patient to be able to deal with problematic customers in a proper manner. 3. Able to work under stress in a small space. Ability to multi-task is a must. 4. Familiar with using electronic point of sale systems and inventory systems. 5. Has a relatively flexible schedule and is very often able to work different shifts as needed. 6. Possess a valid CA Driver's License. Physical Requirements: Continuous carrying/transporting of loads greater than 35 lbs.; intermittent standing, walking, reaching, sitting and carrying/transporting of loads between 15-50 lbs.; occasional climbing, stooping, twisting and fine manipulation. Occasional environmental exposure to cold, heat and water; and rare exposure to dust and fumes. Use of equipment including, but not limited to handtrucks, box cutters, computers, printers and other office equipment. Educational Requirements: Have a high school diploma or equivalent. Read, understand, speak and write English. Have basic PC knowledge including some familiarity with Microsoft Excel. Willing and able to learn new computer skills as necessary.
