The Family Literacy Co-op Program operates 3 hours daily and supports toddlers' language, social and physical development. The Teacher is assisted daily by a rotating group of parents who serve as teacher assistants, while other parents attend the neighboring adult school for English language classes. Reports to: Family Literacy Cooperative Coordinator Teaching & Interacting with Children Provide daily cooperative toddler preschool services Engage students in learning opportunities to support language, socio-emotional, & cognitive development Encourage exploration, and open-ended investigation to provide valuable learning experiences Support English language & vocabulary development throughout the day and through intentional activities Encourage students to connect learning activities outside of classroom Modify & adapt communication styles based on different age groups and developmental levels. Coaching & Interacting with Parents Direct parents in program implementation to ensure high quality services Interact with parents who assist in Co-op to proactively model effective teaching strategies Coach parents in providing learning opportunities in key developmental areas to their children Coach parents in positive interactions with their children to support bonding and language development Communicate with parents to clarify expectations & support participation Provide evaluative feedback to parents to strengthen their engagement with children Offer daily parent & child literacy activities for 30 minutes & Conduct monthly parent meetings Planning Learning Opportunities Set daily classroom schedule to ensure a balanced & high quality program for children Plan lesson plans for toddlers based on children's developmental needs Modify lesson plans to ensure that all students are engaged in age appropriate activities Plan activities & hands-on projects that support students' learning, language development, confidence & skills Create and maintain an age appropriate classroom environment and presentation boards to facilitate learning Rotate classroom materials to ensure a continually engaging environment Establish rules and behavioral expectations; use positive discipline methods with children to guide behavior Conducting Evaluation & Administrative Tasks Participate in trainings with Toddler Co-Op Coordinator & Grants/ Manager to understand grant requirements Carry out program activities that meet grant and program goals and objectives Evaluate program delivery in order to enhance program strengths & address areas in need of improvement Ensure attendance sheets are accurate; submit attendance sheets monthly to Program Assistant Regularly observe children's development & progress; use appropriate assessment tools to evaluate progress Requirements to Apply: AA degree preferred or 3 years of experience in education.
