Job Title Technical Writer, Documentation Specialist Core Functions The position's core function includes the writing of technical and user guides for an alarm automation software company. Audience includes the following: -Internal support and implementation staff -End users -Technical customers -Highly technical customers The ability to work well in a team-oriented environment is required. Much of the work related to these core functions involves research -- both online (internal online resources) and in-person. In order to succeed, the technical writer will want and need to communicate frequently (and well) with all other company departments, especially the product care and development departments. The technical writer must be proficient in editing his or her own work and making documents available to internal staff and customers (via online tools/resources). This company is an extremely fast-paced, rapidly-changing one; the desire and ability to work within these conditions is critical. Daily Duties The daily duties can include writing and editing of any of the following technical guides (for all versions of the software and add-ons, modules, etc.): -Release notes -User guides -Reference manuals -External (online) knowledge base -Internal (online) knowledge base Periodic Duties The technical writer may be asked to offer training, as needed, and as his or her knowledge and skills improve (about the company and its products). This person should have the ability to write and edit a variety of material beyond technical. This can include but is not limited to marketing material, website information, and various other items peripherally related to the candidate's gained experience of the company's products, development and offerings therein. Minimum Requirements -5 to 7 years of technical or other writing experience -B.A. in English, Communication, Journalism or equivalent -Strong technical background -Strong desire to learn about new and quickly-changing software, environment -Proficient with all standard Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) -Ability to work 40 hours per week in the Colorado Springs office (not a work-from-home position) Ideal Qualifications Familiarity with the below qualifications, will set candidates apart in the hiring process: -Alarm automation software, concepts -EC Software's Help & Manual -Kayako Fusion ticketing system and knowledgebase (or similar) a huge plus -Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Company Description: Bold Technologies emerged as the industry leader in central station and alarm company software in 1981.
