Personal Care Attendant (AKA "PCA") Email: Job Description: A personal care attendant assists client with activities of daily living such as cleaning, cooking, shopping, etc. . . and also accompanies client in social activities. Personal care attendants are selected by the client. After the client selects a PCA, he or she is hired by a third party agency known as Accra Care (www.cfcaccra.org/) and paid through them by the State of Minnesota. The Client: Matthew is a 24 year old masters degree student at the George Washington University School of Public Health. He is passionate gamer and E-sports/Starcraft II personality and loves to cook. Matthew relies on a wheelchair for mobility, yet is quite independent. Location: Foggy Bottom/Van Ness and Washington D.C. Area Hours: Part Time (10 to 30 hours per week), Regular But Flexible Hours Important Qualifications: Must be reliable, well organized, flexible, outgoing, adventurous, and hard working. Medical experience is a plus. Must have own transportation to and from work. Compensation: $12.25/hr Duties Include (But Are Not Limited To): • Assisting with activities of daily living such as: cleaning, cooking, laundry, limited personal grooming and hygiene. • Helping plug/unplug and maintaining wheelchairs. • Traveling to and from classes with Matthew. • Set up and limited maintenance of computer and related equipment. • May involve some lifting. • Assisting Matthew with the administration of oral medications. • Exploring the city with Matthew and engaging socially with him and his friends in various settings.
