Council on Foreign Relations Human Resources Office 58 E. 68th Street, New York, NY 10065 FAX: (212) 434-9893 POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Title: Senior Building Engineer, Facility Operations Salary: Based on education and experience The headquarters for the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is housed in the historic landmark Harold Pratt Mansion as well as the state-of-the-art Peterson Conference Center. This combined space is used for several hundred meetings a year. It is also rented for numerous rental events each year. The Senior Building Engineer, Facility Operations, will be responsible for the management of maintenance, building operations, and the overall appearance for the facility. He/she will be a flexible, hands-on manager with outstanding customer service skills and strong knowledge of New York City code. The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to): Managing all aspects of CFR's New York facility operations function, including developing and overseeing maintenance protocol and managing building infrastructure systems Supervising Facility Operations maintenance staff, including training, setting high customer service standards and expectations, scheduling, and fostering teamwork Monitoring all work order requests and scheduling appropriate work Assist with the development of safety procedures and protocols and ensuring they are followed Ensuring that all building systems (e.g. mechanical, electrical, fire protection, etc.) are maintained in an effective, safe, and cost effective way Managing and developing the building management system (BMS) Managing vendor relations, including identifying potential vendors, checking on licensing, contract management, establishing and reinforcing vendor protocols, and inspection of vendor work Maintaining accurate and complete maintenance and repair records. Maintaining inventory of all equipment, tools, supplies, and chemicals Monitoring the consumption of energy and purchased utilities and supplies within the building Monitoring project budgets Coordinating facility operations with the Washington D.C. facility counterpart, as well as with Event Management staff Interacting with staff, guests, and members in a professional, collegial, responsive, and flexible manner Working a flexible schedule upon request (e.g. periodic weekends, holidays, early mornings, late nights) including during emergency situations and inclement weather. This position is considered essential personnel. Qualifications: A minimum of 7 years related facility/building experience in a high profile owned property, ideally in a building of architectural significance Significant supervisory experience Education and training in a related field Hands on knowledge of building operating systems, ideally including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical Strong understanding of federal, state, and local law, codes and regulations applicable to operations, facilities, and security operations Outstanding customer service skills Knowledge of automatic temperature controls and building management systems Strong verbal and written communication skills Proactive, results-oriented professional with strong attention to detail and proven ability to multi-task Ability to work independently and on a team Ability for hands-on work including lifting and carry weight in excess of 50 pounds (i.e. - packages, office furniture, etc.) Highest level of dependability and professionalism Short commute to the facility required, including ability to commute to facility in inclement weather The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is a leading independent, nonpartisan membership organization, think tank, and publisher.
