The Mini-Cassia Criminal Justice Center is currently hiring for the position of Nurse. The job requires contact with inmates, the ability to maintain safety and security within the jail, proficiency in computer skills, must have excellent people skills and be self-motivated. Salary range is $17.50 - $18.40/hr (D.O.E.) with an excellent benefit package to include very affordable medical/dental insurance, life insurance, and PERSI Retirement. Accrual of 10 days of vacation and 10 days of personal time may be earned per year. Work hours are 8 hour days Monday through Friday with 10 paid holidays. Weekends and holidays are generally off but subject to call in. You will have to pass a criminal records check, a background investigation, be drug free, and complete a polygraph test. JOB SUMMARY:

The nurse will coordinate and provide medical, mental health, and dental care services to ill, injured, convalescent, and handicapped in clinical and institutional setting.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Cares for and treats patients in medical office in accordance to physician direction. Prepares patient for and assists with examinations. Administers injections and medications, dresses wounds and incisions, interprets physician’s instructions to patients. Maintains and records vital statistics and medical data of patient. Cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment, orders and stocks supplies.

MINIMUM JOB PREREQUISITES AND SKILLS:

1. Graduate from high school, G.E.D., or high school equivalency program.
2. Certified LPN in the State of Idaho.
3. Have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
4. Have the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with inmates, the public and other departments.
5. Have the ability to react quickly to novel situations under conditions of stress.
6. Have a working knowledge of office equipment such as copiers, computers, fax machines, adding machines, typewriters, and telephones.
7. Have a working knowledge of basic filing systems including alphabetical and numerical indexing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Review all medical information obtained during receiving.
2. Collect health appraisal data.
3. Provide “in house” non-emergency medical services.
4. Coordinate emergency medical and dental services.
5. Provide first aid.
6. Screen, refer when necessary, and care for mentally ill, suicide-prone, retarded, and disabled inmates.
7. Arrange to provide chronic and convalescent care.
8. Arrange for close medical supervision of inmates with special medical or psychiatric concerns.
9. Supervise delousing procedures.
10. Supervise detoxification procedures.
11. Coordinate the ordering of pharmaceuticals, and supervise pharmacy administration.
12. Notification of next of kin in case of serious illness, injury or death.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. File medical records for the medical department.
2. Photocopy necessary medical files.
3. Fax medical services requests.
4. Coordinate medical records destruction assignments.
5. Maintain work sites in clean user friendly environment.
6. Other duties as assigned.
