Jail Technician

The Mini-Cassia Criminal Justice Center is currently hiring for the position of Jail Technician. The job requires the ability to maintain safety and security within the jail, proficiency in computer skills, must have excellent people skills and be self-motivated.

Starting salary is $9.39/hr with an excellent benefit package to include very affordable medical/dental insurance and PERSI Retirement. This is a non-certified position and successful candidates will not be required to attend the POST Detention Academy. You will be trained in all areas of the jail but will not be required to have direct contact with inmates. Work hours will be set to cover busy times when extra help in the Control Room or Booking are needed. You must be at least 18 years of age or be able to demonstrate 2 years of full time employment after graduating high school. You will have to pass a criminal records check, a written examination, a background investigation, be drug free, and successfully complete a polygraph test. DEPARTMENT SHERIFF
DIVISION MINI-CASSIA CRIMINAL JUSTICE CENTER
POSTION JAIL TECHNICIAN

I. JOB SUMMARY:

Perform a variety of entry level law enforcement duties related to the security, safety, order, operation and maintenance of county jail facilities.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Jail technicians work under the close supervision of the shift sergeant or ranking officer.

MINIMUM JOB PREREQUISITES AND SKILLS:

1. Be at least 18 years of age.
2. Graduate from high school, High School Equivalent, or GED program, or within six months of attaining certificate of completion.
3. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
4. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with inmates, the public and other departments.
5. Ability to react quickly to novel situations under conditions of stress.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Possess a valid Idaho State Drivers License.
2. Jail Technician job assignments are generally performed in a controlled environment, but subject to occasional travel.
3. Work specific hours of assignment 40 hours a week.
4. Function in a high degree of hazard uncertainty.
5. Continuous use of motor skills; physical readiness and conditioning.
6. Emotional stability; discriminating thinking.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Receive and safely keep all persons duly committed to the Mini-Cassia Criminal Justice Center.
2. Keep continuous records of inmates.
3. Maintain financial records of inmate funds.
4. Carry out all legitimate orders from supervisory personnel.
5. Log officer activity, inmate activity and all unusual occurrences.
6. Process inmate mail.
7. Other duties as assigned


B CONTROL

1. Answer telephone; give and receive information.
2. Relay information from courts, attorneys and police to appropriate staff members.
3. Monitor audio and video equipment within the control room
4. Monitor door controls.
5. Receipt incoming inmate property.
6. Admit authorized visitors and supervise inmate visitation.
7. Maintain computer activity logs.
8. Coordinate inmate activities.
9. Perform daily house cleaning functions in the Control Room.

C BOOKING

1. Accept prisoners for booking.
2. Perform initial medical screening, injury or intoxication.
3. Place inmate property in storage and receipt property inventory.
4. Prepare in-custody inmate files.
5. Review and route intake medical information.
6. Review state sentenced inmate transports and commitments orders.
7. Advise inmate of charges filed and bond requirements.
8. Complete inmate medical screening.
9. Maintain security and order in jail.
10. Answer phone; give and receive information.
11. Keep accurate accounting of all money transacted.
12. Perform daily house cleaning functions in the booking area.
