VETERANS HEALTHCARE ADMINISTRATION TOGUS (AUGUSTA), MAINE ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY POSITION WITH ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES
You are invited to join a team-oriented orthopedic staff consisting of two full-time and two part-time orthopedic surgeons, a mid-level provider, an RN, and a health technician – providing care for those who have served. Togus VA Medical Center (VAMC) proudly serves Maine's veterans at a main campus in Augusta and six outpatient clinics. It's a modern 67-operating bed facility with general medical, surgical, intermediate and mental health beds, as well as 50 Skilled-Longer Stay beds, and a 50-bed Dementia Unit. The oldest veterans' facility in the country (est. 1866), much of its 500+ acres is natural woodland habitat for wildlife. Living in Maine offers excellent quality of life and access to many cultural and recreational activities including one of the most scenic coastal areas in the country.
We are seeking a B/C or B/E Orthopedic Surgeon for a full time position. There is an opportunity for teaching medical students and resident surgeon as Togus is forging alliances with Tufts, Dartmouth, University of New England and University of Vermont Medical Schools. Togus is not a trauma center and thus there is no scheduled call. You’ll enjoy a broad range of surgical cases including total knees, total hips, rotator cuffs, total shoulders, and arthroscopies along with your regular outpatient clinic.
Surgical staff members are entitled to 10 federal holidays and also receive nearly 6 weeks of paid annual leave. The surgeon is eligible to participate in a pension program as well as a matching Thrift Savings Plan which is similar to a 401K. Candidates with prior military experience may be able to combine their accrued military retirement credit with VA pension benefits. First year salary may be up to $325K for a full-time B/C Orthopedic Surgeon with the right level of experience and motivation. You should hold an unrestricted US license (does not need to be a Maine license).
Live in Augusta, our state capital, or within easy commuting distance, whether in Portland, on the ocean, in the mountains, or lakeside. We enjoy safe communities with highly rated school systems. You’ll find the clinical and physician leadership opportunities, coupled with work/life balance and the satisfaction of caring for those who have served our country, an opportunity that’s difficult to match.
