Family Planning Advocates of New York State, a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to protecting and expanding access to the full range of reproductive health services seeks a Director of Government Relations.
Job duties: Successful applicant will be responsible for educating legislative staff and members about the organizationís priority legislative and budgetary issues; advocating for policies that advance FPAís mission; representing FPAís interests in issue-based coalitions; providing assistance in the tracking and monitoring of legislation pending before the New York legislature; assisting in the development and implementation of advocacy campaigns; and some electoral work. Position also involves limited federal work, including developing and nurturing relationships with New York delegation on Capitol Hill; working in conjunction with national affiliates and partners to support pro-active legislation and to protect federal funding streams for family planning services.
Position reports to VP of Government Relations and requires some travel. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
Qualifications: Applicant must have a minimum five years of experience in state government to be considered, excellent interpersonal skills, be a self-starter, and have established relationships in New York State government on legislative, executive and administrative levels.
