LIVE from the NYPL is seeking full-time interns interested in gaining professional hands-on experience in public programming. This opportunity is designed for an intern to work with the LIVE team to acquire skills needed to put on a series of live, public events.
LIVE has four (4) internships available this fall:
The Office/Administrative Intern will act as an essential cog that helps LIVE run on a day-to-day basis. The position includes requesting materials, proof-reading copy, assisting in updating the website, and providing additional support to the LIVE staff. Intern will gain experience in budgeting and planning as well as have the unique experience of interacting with many different departments at the library such as Graphics, Development, Counsel, and more. This opportunity is perfect for students or recent grads in: Arts/Non Profit Administration, Business Administration, Hospitality Services, Educational Programming, etc.
The Research/Archive Intern will be charged with helping the Director and Research Assistant prepare necessary research-based materials for LIVE events. The intern will also have the opportunity to help design and implement an archiving system that utilizes LIVE’s backlog of multimedia. This opportunity is perfect for students or recent grads in: Literature, Archiving, Library Studies, Art History, Dramaturgy, etc.
The Social Media, Marketing and Outreach Intern will help to spread the word about LIVE by working with the official NYPL webpage and maintaining a presence on multiple social media networks. We are seeking someone who will be interested not only in outreach, but in data collection and audience development. Intern will have access to courses and groups dedicated to social media at the library and will collaborate with LIVE to seek new and exciting ways to reach new audiences. This opportunity is perfect for students or recent grads in: Marketing, Public Relations, Community Outreach, Statistics/Market Research etc.
The Multimedia Intern will be responsible for uploading multimedia to the LIVE site and doing basic editing to our media to prepare it for uploading. This person will also take the lead in designing our program fliers. Applicants do not need full proficiency in editing and designing software, but must be familiar and hungry to learn. This opportunity is perfect for students of recent grads in: Graphic Design, Video Production, Photography, Computer Science/Programming, etc.
The Team Experience In addition to these individual projects, interns will come together as a team to help produce LIVE events. Roles will include working front of house/box office, artist services, technical production, and stage management.
This is an unpaid internship that may be used for credit toward a degree at an accredited university. Internships need not be taken for credit.

Applications for the Fall 2011 Season are due by October 15 at the latest. Applicants can apply for internships after October 15 and be hired on a rolling basis based on position availability.
