Business intelligence (BI) refers to technologies, applications and practices for the collection, integration, analysis, and presentation of data. The Business Intelligence Developer III role is to design, develop, and implement enterprise database and BI solutions. Business Intelligence Developer III will also mentor other developers in database and BI technologies like SQL, SSRS, OLAP, SSAS and SSIS and will report to the Supervisor of BI Development. This individual will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to guide other developers on issues related to the design, development, and deployment of mission-critical information systems.


SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)

SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

• TSQL, SSMS, SSRS, SSAS and SSIS.

Transact-SQL (T-SQL)
SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)

Acquisition & Deployment

• Create and maintain solutions in support of company’s software applications and business requirements.
• Collaborate with developers, programmers, and designers in conceptualizing and development of new software programs and applications. Ensure that development projects fulfill end-user requirements.
• Analyze and assess existing business systems and procedures.
• Assist in the definition, development, and documentation of software’s business requirements, objectives, deliverables, and specifications on a project-by-project basis in collaboration with internal users and departments.
• Assist in defining software development project plans, including scoping, scheduling, and implementation.
• Research, identify, analyze, and fulfill requirements of all internal and external program users.
• Consistently write, translate, and code software programs and applications according to specifications.
• Write programming scripts to enhance functionality and/or performance of company applications as necessary.
• Design, run and monitor software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging.
• Administer critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to problem areas.
• Generate statistics and write reports for management and/or team members on the status of the programming process.
• Develop and maintain user manuals and guidelines.
• Train end users to operate new or modified programs.
• Conduct research on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
• Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements and upgrades.
• Make use of enterprise reporting tools to create standalone and embedded reports for applications and end users.


Strategy & Planning

• Mentor and provide direction for the BI development team in support of business operations.
• Help implement long-term strategic goals and short-term tactical plans for managing, maintaining, enhancing and developing BI technology solutions across the enterprise.
• Help ensure that proposed and existing BI platform architectures and systems are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
• Research and make recommendations on software products and services in support of development efforts.
• Research, review, and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing BI solutions and environments and develop strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes.
• Develop routines and procedures for end-users to facilitate best practices use of reporting tools and applications.


Operational

• Liaise with network administrators in support of systems development and maintenance.
• Cultivate, disseminate, and enforce functional policies, procedures, and quality assurance best practices.
• Lead all phases of development by creating and documenting requirements and evaluating requests for enhancement and bug fixes.
• Ensure that any new software integration into company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications related to reporting systems.
• Collaborate with developers and key company personnel in the design and testing of new solutions and applications.
• Provide technical leadership to developers working on development project teams.
• Design, develop, and install enhancements and upgrades to systems and application software.
• Liaise with PMO and provide status updates on projects related to development or enhancements.
• Cultivate, disseminate, and enforce functional policies, procedures, and quality assurance best practices.


Formal Education & Certification

• Four-year college diploma or university degree in computer systems design or computer science and 5 years equivalent work experience in BI architecture and development.


Knowledge & Experience

• Proven experience in leading the direction, development, and implementation of BI solutions.
• Proven experience in successfully designing and developing BI development teams.
• Strong knowledge of quality assurance best practices and methodologies for BI environments.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server 2005, 2008 R2 including TSQL, SSMS, SSRS, SSAS and SSIS.
• Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures, project lifecycle models, etc.
• Knowledge of database design and file management techniques.
• Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Windows 2000 and XP, Windows Server 2003, 2008 R2 32 and 64bit editions.
• Knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards.
• Visual Source Safe and Share Point a plus.
