The Foster Care program of Special Kids Special Families in Colorado Springs is seeking families who... 1. Are able to accept siblings; 2. Are able to accept teens and challenging youth and young adults, including teens and adults as a therapeutic and treatment foster homes to help them learn self care and community inclusion skills (our Benchmarks for Life program).
Our Benchmarks for Life program is a new foster care program of Special Kids Special Families. This program is intended to serve youth identified as having multiple and dynamic needs. These needs include intellectual and physical disabilities, older youth, multiple traumatic events in their life, emotional and behavioral issues, significant loss, and attachment disorders.
We are seeking families that have experience in working with youth, are willing to be trained, and have the ability to provide an enriching and therapeutic home life. A candidate will possess good communication skills and have the ability to develop intervention skills to help the youth progress in their daily living. If you find that your skills are working with a professional team, influencing and teaching youth, and wanting to make a difference in the lives of youth; you will want to look further into this program.
Special Kids Special Families (SKSF) is a Child Placement agency serving counties throughout Colorado including Denver Metro, Colorado Springs, the Front Range and Pikes Peak Region.
BENEFITS - You will be introduced to a child who needs a safe and stable home. The impact that our foster families have on these children is amazing. You will know you are making a difference in the life of a child.
- You will become the most important link in the treatment team for this child. Your foster child will rely on you to help them maneuver through their treatment plan by supporting them with home life, schooling, peers, family relationships, and providing transportation to necessary appointments and visits as applicable. SKSF staff will meet with you to provide the necessary training and requirements for you to become a licensed foster parent. This training is absolutely free to you.
- When you become a foster parent we will assign you a Home Supervisor to help you navigate the ongoing journey of foster parenting. Our Home Supervisors exist to be available to you, to answer any questions you may have and to support you in your parenting of children that can be difficult at times (due to their background). You will be given ongoing support, training, and encouragement from your Home Supervisor.
- Financial Reimbursement for care and supervision. Reimbursement is dependent upon the needs of the youth with the foster care system. Medical care for your foster child is covered 100% by Medicaid.
REQUIREMENTS As a part of the application process, we are required to conduct background checks, complete a family assessment including all members living in the home, administer a home inspection that you will be guided through, and provide the necessary training for certification.
