Customers come to us all the time asking:

  • How can I send Marketing SMS Messages?

  • How can I make a QR Code?

  • Who provides Mobile Marketing?

So, what is Mobile Marketing?

Mobile Phones are here to stay.

250 Million Americans carry mobile phones.  That's more than 80% of the U.S. population.  By 2014 it is estimated that over half of Americans will be using their phones to browse the web.  Mobile phones are fully personalized devices.

Mobile Marketing is making use of these personal devices to let consumers know about what you have to offer in a NO-SPAM ZONE.  That means getting your message directly and immediately to people who are interested in your products or services right now.

So let's look at some of the top mobile marketing methods: QR Codes, Mobile Websites and Keyword or Opt-In Text Messaging

What are QR Codes?

You may have seen these funny type of images around the internet, product packaging, ads, magazine articles, even t-shirts. They are called QR Codes.

QR stands for Quick Response. These are two dimensional barcodes that can be read by many Smartphone such as iPods and Androids. When scanned with one of these devices it can return contact information, give them product details, or bring them to a web page that could contain any additional information you may want the customer to know about a product service, special, or even see a restaurant’s menu.

Who Needs Mobile Websites?

Mobile Websites are specially designed websites that rather than the companies regular website is tailored to the mobile user.  They are more concise, specifically focused on a specific product, service, special offering, etc., and easier to read on a mobile device.

Mobile websites are being used to help travelers find hotels, restaurants, bars, and other businesses. By 2014, it is estimated that half of all Americans' web browsing will be done on their mobile devices. 84% of potential customers expect companies to have a mobile website.

When used in conjunction with the QR Code a company can very easily share concise, specific information on the product, ad, article, etc. when they are ready to buy.

What is Keyword or Opt-In Text Messaging?

If you have watched American Idol or America's Got Talent or one of the many other reality competitions on television you have surely seen the option to send your vote via text message.  They give a special short number usually about 5 digits and tell you to text a code to it.  What that simply means is that instead of typing a full number (or name lookup) as the text number, you just fill in that short 5 digit number, and instead of typing up a text message, you just put that code in where you would type in the text message.

While more and more people are checking their email on their phones, the problem is that the emails are more and more considered spam and they are not opened or are deleted.

Text messages however are only sent from friends, family, or businesses that they asked to opt-in to. 90% of text messages are read in 10 minutes, and over 99% of all text messages are read. Text special offers and coupons have a redemption rate of 4% - 30%.

The advantage to Opt-In Keyword Text Messages is that, unlike QR Codes, these people can easily be recontacted.  When a customer texts your keyword in they not only get an immediate text response with your information and a link to your mobile website, you now have are an interested person that you can follow up with a few weeks down the road with additional related offers.

(Please note you really only want to text specials every few weeks, otherwise you are likely to irritate the reader and they will opt-out.)

Mobile phones are here to stay and mobile marketing is the future of direct local marketing. What are you doing for mobile marketing?
