Join an organically expanding, membership-led, grassroots organization building power among low -to moderate-income people to fight for social and economic justice! MORE is an uncompromising voice for social and economic justice, gender and LGBT equality, environmental sustainability and peace. MORE is out in the streets, fighting to protect our planet, saving homes from foreclosure, demanding equal pay for equal work, and working to end violence in our communities, and figuring out creative solutions to the problems afflicting our schools. Most importantly, our organizers engage in direct action and work with our leaders to build power based on their ability to move people to action.
The Organizing Fellow will oversee the implementation of MORE’s Climate Action Saint Louis campaign. S/he will facilitate collective decision-making and democracy at regularly-held leadership meetings, identify and develop leaders while building the membership base, and work with leaders and members to build their organizing skills in an effort to create a self-sustaining and truly grassroots movement for environmental justice.
RESPONSIBILITIES -Recruit community members’ to join our organization and take leadership in organizational campaigns and activities. Identify and develop leaders. - Develop and implement campaign strategies with members and member-leaders. - Do research, direct action, and media work.
QUALIFICATIONS -One year of political or community organizing experience preferred. Preferably on racial, social and economic justice issues. And/or Demonstrated ability to work in multi-racial, multi-income groups. -Experience in base building, door knocking, leadership development, and strategy development (or willingness to learn to these skills) is essential. -Must be flexible and willing to work in a demanding and rapidly changing work environment. Minimum 2 month commitment required.
Fellowship stipend of up to $1,000 available. Position could become salaried after two months depending on the fellow’s abilities.
