Flint Hill Village is a program in its developing stages where neighborhood volunteers will provide assistance to older adults and people with disabilities to make it easier to stay living in their homes. This grassroots type of program is occurring across the country and is called “aging in place.” Flint Hill Village is part of the Parkside Community Association in the City of Buffalo.
The Parkside Community Association has been awarded the opportunity to hire a worker through WNY AmeriCorps, and he/she will be paid through WNY AmeriCorps. As a requirement of WNY AmeriCorps, the applicant must be younger than 25.
Flint Hill Village Project Coordinator:
The purpose of the Project Coordinator is to foster and oversee the development of Flint Hill Village. The Project Coordinator works with a volunteer Steering Committee and the Executive Director of the Parkside Community Association. The Project Coordinator must have an interest in community development, program design, and/or volunteer coordination and the enthusiasm to find ways to make Flint Hill Village grow.
Skills needed:
• Self-directed and the ability to work independently
• Ability to facilitate steering committee meetings
• Strong communication skills
• Good outreach and interpersonal skills
• Understanding of Windows software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Sample duties include:
• Planning and organizing various volunteer projects
• Interviewing and reaching out to older adults about their needs to live in their home
• Creating Steering Committee meeting agenda and then distributing meeting minutes
• Compiling and organizing bulk mailings
• Formatting a newsletter
• Maintaining a Google-based website
• Researching free/low cost services for older adults
• Building and maintaining professional relationships with community service providers
This is a 25 hour a week position. Some evenings and weekends are required.
