Title: RN – Staff Nurse – Operating Room - Ortho
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Salary: $45,000-$67,500
Responsibilities of Position: Overview: RN/OR, F/T Days with call on weekend and holidays. Medical Center's Operating Room is a 12 suite operating room (with plans to expand to 16) with a 50/50 mix of general and orthopedic surgeries being performed. By year’s end we will have provided excellent care to over 8300 patients ranging in age from 1 to 99. We are one of 2 hospitals in the valley they have the Prox table for anterior total hip replacement surgery.
We do endovascular, general, GYN, urological and orthopedic cases and have sports medicine surgeons on staff. We do not do open heart, plastic surgery and we do limited pediatric surgeries.
We have our own contracted in-house Anesthesia provider group that can deliver any form of anesthesia including regional anesthesia. Anesthesia provides services to other parts of the hospital including L&D, special procedures and radiology and endoscopy depts. Fully dedicated to continuing education through lectures and in-services and work collaboratively with staff.
We have dedicated medical imaging technicians, anesthesia technicians, CNA, housekeeping and transport assistance to best serve our patients and surgeons. Our teams of dedicated professionals, many of whom are certified, deliver the best care with an emphasis on the total patient and support the vision of customer service excellence.
Responsibilities: Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, and cultural and discharge planning needs.
a. Reviews patient History & Physical with patient/family, assures completion within appropriate timeframe.
b. Reviews available information obtained by other health care team members.
c. Reviews diagnostics and laboratory data and reports abnormal results to the physician(s) and other appropriate caregivers.
d. Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and as outlined in policy and Standards of Care.
Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data, patient, family and health team input.
a. Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data and the medical plan of care.
b. Goals for patient are realistic, measurable and developed in conjunction with the patient/family.
c. Considers the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age specific and educational needs of the patient in the plan of are.
d. Plans care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team.
e. Reviews and revises the plan of care to reflect changing patient needs based on evaluation of the patient's status.
Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the activities of the health care team.
a. Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements.
b. Delegates appropriately, and provides nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and other personnel.
c. Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients for whom care is provided.
Evaluates the patient's and family's response to care and teaching, and revise the plan of care as needed.
a. Evaluates patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other health care team members.
b. Evaluates patient's response and the effectiveness of patient teaching.

Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record.
a. Documentation is legible, timely and in accordance with policy.
b. Documentation reflects objective/subjective data, nursing interventions and patient's response to treatment.
c. Notes physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
Promotes professional development within delivery of care.
a. Maintains clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations.
b. Incorporates, supports, and participates in concepts of shared leadership at both departmental and facility level.
c. utilizes evidence based practice or research within clinical practice.
d. Actively participates in quality improvement process. Actively participates in performance measures of national nursing quality indicators.
e. Accountable for patient flow to enhance throughput within department.
f. Interacts and participates in the education/orientation of hospital personnel, patients, students, families and visitors. Promotes/supports growth of others through precepting andmentoring.
Education Required:
Must possess a current valid Arizona RN license or temporary Arizona RN license. Relates throughout the interview process the experience, training and education needed to perform the job. Current BLS and ACLS certification required. CNOR/BSN preferred. Min. of 2 years exp. in an Inpatient Operating Room with experience with major Orthopedic, including Total Joint replacement, Vascular, General, Urology and Gynecology procedures. On call response time is 30 minutes or less. Experience with electronic charting.
