JOB SUMMARY Researches, plans, and designs software, electrical, and electromechanical products and systems, and directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, maintenance, and repair of software, electrical, and electromechanical products and systems. Works closely with other Engineering disciplines to develop products and systems to satisfy customer orders.
PERFORMS THE FOLLOWING DUTIES: * Plans, conducts, and directs research and development for given engineering assignments related to shipment of Machine Tools products. * Participates in larger projects of major magnitude and scope, or more than one project. * Researches and analyzes data such as Machine Tools Customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application. * Recommends changes in procedures. * Conceives, designs, and develops electrical and software systems to satisfy Machine Tool Customer order specifications. * Designs must be fully documented (including drawings, schematics, and BOM's) and be developed per schedule and within cost constraints.
INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING: * Designs and develops special equipment related to Machine Tools Division and specifically the Automated Turning Machines. * Estimates engineering time, material, and resources required for given projects. * Schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications. * Acts as liaison with other departments within the Machine Tools Division (i.e. Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, or Purchasing). * Develops, creates, manages, and maintains technical documentation describing custom products for the Machine Tools Division, including, but not limited to, detail drawings, layouts, assembly drawings, bills of material, engineering specifications, schematic diagrams, and flow charts. * Assists assembly, installation, and set-up activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and Machine Tool Customer specifications. * Provides assistance in the form of information and recommendations for operation, maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment. * Designs products and systems for the Machine Tools Division to interface with machines, hardware, and software. * Evaluates field installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions. * Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
LIAISON: * Communicates effectively with functional manager and project managers supplying periodic progress reports on status of assignments. * Provides Field Service with technical information concerning software and hardware to aid in installation and service of the equipment. * Assists Purchasing with technical guidance on electrical components, equipment, software, and services.
Related Duties: * Maintains design data books or design log book on assignments. * Prepares written reports as required. * Submits status reports to Project Manager on progress of assigned projects, as required. * Participates in status meetings. * Keeps abreast of new technology. * Test various electronic sub-systems and devices.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree BSEE or equivalent; or four to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
