Washington C.A.S.H. (Community Alliance for Self-Help): We provide the business training, supportive community, and capital to help enterprising individuals with limited financial resources gain self-sufficiency through small business ownership.

Ventures, the Washington C.A.S.H. "retail incubator," is located in the historic Nord building in Seattle’s Pioneer Square. The store showcases handcrafted products from our program’s participants and other local and low-income entrepreneurs, offering direct market access as well as hands-on training in retail product development, pricing, and presentation.

The Ventures Access-to-Markets Business Specialist will work within a cross-agency partnership including Washington C.A.S.H., Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), and Washington Initiative for Supportive Employment (W.i.S.e). DVR is a division of the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services providing employment services to individuals with disabilities who want to work but experience significant barriers. W.i.S.e is a non-profit organization working for equitable employment and self-employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.

Focusing on engaging with potential distributors in an “outside sales” capacity on behalf of our clients, your goal is to increase client sales. The Business Specialist will provide sales, marketing, and advertising support directly to clients so that low income entrepreneurs, especially those with disabilities, can increase their access to the market place.

With the professional help of this Business Specialist, underserved entrepreneurs will improve their pricing, branding and marketing and thus increase their business revenue and ultimately their household revenue. This position will be devoted to promoting the artisans and other entrepreneurs and improve their businesses by building distribution channels and getting client products sold in a variety of venues. In this role, you will provide input and guidance on marketing, promotion, product development, and market readiness.

This person will be responsible for establishing distribution relationships with gift shops, wholesale markets, farmers markets, etc. The position will focus on representing a client base of people with disabilities and other current Washington C.A.S.H. clients.


• Perform individual client assessments to establish product readiness for market.
• Provide technical assistance with an emphasis on improving the product quality and quantity of products sold for our clients;
• Develop and implement a minimum of 25 individualized marketing plans for clients with disabilities by year end, and 30 more in 2012.
• Collaborate with W.i.S.e. to identify and manage DVR clients.
• Identify suitable “bricks and mortar” points of distribution and potential ecommerce markets for our clients. Work to ensure successful delivery of products into these new channels.
• Increase the business revenue of DVR clients and other C.A.S.H. clients through access to markets services within two years.
• Collaborate with Ventures Store Manager to leverage incubator resources in mutual support of our clients.
• Elevate the profile of the Ventures retail store in the community.
• Prepare regular progress reports on program success and milestones and required.
• Working collaboratively and cooperatively with other staff and agency partners to serve the mission of C.A.S.H.
• Other duties, as needed.


 Demonstrated distribution, wholesale and retail experience and success establishing marketing plans for retail products in Washington State.
 A strong network and connections of Washington State retail points of distribution and ability to leverage this network to open doors for our clients’ products.
 Demonstrated commitment to customer service and to serving clients with disabilities.
 Understanding of wholesale markets.
 Effectively manages time and successfully meet deadlines.
 Able to work independently on projects and collaborate as a strong team member representing C.A.S.H. during cross-agency project.
 Able to make short, occasional, overnight trips throughout Washington on a quarterly basis.
 Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
 Strong computer including MS Office Suite.
 Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
 Innovation and creativity in identifying markets for clients throughout Washington State.
