Job Description

Designs and develops new technology that enables profitable growth in land vehicle powertrain systems. The scope of responsibility is to lead and coordinate the development of conceptual solutions, analytics, and hardware needed to validate critical questions, deliver proof of concept, and ensure the transition of new technology to the product development organizations.

Essential Functions include:
A. Identifies and creates new product opportunities that provide value through technology.
B. Conceptualizes and designs state-of-the-art prototype and pre-production engine air induction systems for commercial vehicles and passenger cars.
C. Generates a variety of system and component choices and performs trade-off analyses using both analytical and experimental resources.
D. Formulates a concept's critical hypotheses and designs and executes the relevant tests to validate the hypotheses.
E. Plans and manages work from a variety of technical contributors to accomplish project objectives.
F. Defines, plans, and executes all aspects of a prototype powertrain system development project including analysis, design, procurement, fabrication, assembly, and test.
G. Oversees the installation of prototype systems into development vehicles.
H. Interacts with engineers, designers, and technicians to accomplish project objectives.
I. Interacts with customer, partner, and supplier organizations to accomplish project objectives.
J. Clearly communicates project status to management both verbally and in writing.
K. Applies innovation tools to the creation of novel and differentiated product solutions.

Work Experience/Educational Requirements

Minimum Requirements

Expert knowledge of internal combustion engine thermodynamics and system architecture.

Expert knowledge of diesel engine design and development, particularly in the fields of air induction systems, charge air boosting, boost controls, and emissions controls.

Working knowledge of internal combustion engine simulation tools and interpretation of their results for problem solving.

Ability to plan, manage, and lead complex projects to successful completion.

Functional familiarity with land vehicle systems in general, including transmission systems, chassis systems, embedded electronics, and digital communications systems. (A general understanding is fine - does not have to be an expert.)

Experience with the integration of systems composed of mechanical, electrical, and control/communication elements.

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.

Ten years of experience in diesel engine design and development in industry.

Strong communication and presentation skills.
