Austin Lyric Opera seeks a Director of Marketing to head a department responsible for marketing and sales functions. The position reports to ALO’s General Director. Responsibilities include the development, management, and execution of strategically-driven marketing plans to increase sales and revenue, including subscription and single ticket sales campaigns, direct mail and advertising campaigns, community music school registrations, promotional activities, coordination of e-based and social marketing, and management of group sales. The position is also responsible for designing and implementing audience development techniques, and seasonal events that continually broaden and diversify the audience.

Austin Lyric opera seeks a proven professional with at least five years experience in cultural marketing, preferably opera. A bachelor's degree is required.

The successful candidate will demonstrate energy and initiative, strong writing, analytical, organizational, and managerial skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a close-knit team, and a track record in cultivation and retention of both repeat and new buyers. The Director of Marketing plays an important role in ALO's overall strategic planning, and therefore knowledge of the operatic repertoire is preferred. The position supervises a full-time professional staff of three, and also involves management and utilization of outside data, creative, and media consultants, as well as volunteers in the form of guild members.

Founded in 1986, ALO offers 3 to 4 fully produced opera productions each year. The company is recognized for the high quality of its productions. Additionally, ALO is the only opera company in the world to incorporate a community music school in its daily educational operations. The company’s annual budget is approximately $4.5 million with ticket sales income of more than $1.3 million and school revenues of more than $700 thousand.
