The Children's Inn at NIH in Bethesda, MD is seeking a part-time Facilities Assistant to work 4 weekday mornings (approximately 20 hours) per week. Please visit our website for additional information.

Overview:
The Facilities Assistant is responsible for providing maintenance and technical assistance to the Facilities Manager.

Facilities Management:
• Reviews work requests, prepares work orders, maintains supporting documentation and histories.
• Repairs, maintains, and installs typical office and residential furniture and fixtures; plumbing fixtures; and kitchen appliances. Performs basic preventative maintenance (e.g. replacing air filters) on heating and cooling equipment.
• Purchases supplies to support maintenance and repairs.
• Supports the TCI preventative maintenance program as assigned and facilitates necessary repairs and maintenance.
• Coordinates and supports NIH maintenance staff, housekeeping staff, contractors, and volunteer activities related to facilities. Ensures quality and contract performance.
• Coordinates housekeeping and provides furniture and equipment set-ups for events and meetings.
• May assist the Facilities Manager in Project Management of building renovations, alterations, and improvements.
• Maintains storage facilities.
• Maintains electronic records as required and reports to supervisor on a regular basis.
• Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager.

Guest Relations:
• Promote a homelike environment of support and understanding for residents of the Inn
• Become familiar with all Inn rules, policies and services as they relate to the families residing at The Children’s Inn
• Maintain flexibility and acknowledge stress of communal living
• Professionally represent the values and mission of The Children’s Inn at all times and internalize the philosophy that the Inn’s families come first
• Meet reasonable needs of Inn residents



Qualifications:
Education:
High School diploma required; college coursework preferred.
Experience:
Minimum three (3) years experience in “hands-on” maintenance and repairs, including finish carpentry and light plumbing skills.
Skills/Traits:
Must be able to demonstrate a commitment to quality workmanship. Must exhibit attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and follow-through on assigned projects. Professional oral and written communication skills are required, and Spanish speaking ability is a plus. Must have good skills in basic computer functions, including email, Microsoft Office (Word; Excel). Must have ability to work in a fast-changing, service-driven environment. Position requires ability to use basic hand and power tools, to work on ladders up to 6’ above the floor, and the ability to lift 50 lbs.
Health:
Must be in good general health with no history of chronic diseases that could be hazardous to the residents of The Children’s Inn.
Schedule:
Schedule is 20 hours per week based on organizational need, Monday through Thursday.
