The Social Media & Communications Intern is responsible for maintaining and expanding the social media presence for RedEngine Digital’s clients, assisting in short-term social media projects and other communications tasks, as assigned.
While specific projects will vary from week to week, the intern should generally expect to spend most of his or her time assisting the New Media Associate with social media work, including: creating and monitoring social media content, research, and assisting in donation-driven social media campaigns.
The intern will report to the New Media Associate. Based on the success of the internship and RedEngine’s needs at the time, it is possible the intern will be offered a summer or fall internship, or full-time employment upon college graduation. Access to a car is preferable for this location.
In carrying out these duties, the intern will have the opportunity to work closely with, and learn from, experienced communications professionals. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about digital marketing strategy, online and social media nonprofit campaigns and the operation of a marketing agency. Specific duties may include:
• Monitoring social media networks, specifically Facebook and Twitter • Reading through websites and reports to extract and organize information to share on social networks • Monitoring social media and online news sources for information relevant to clients and campaigns • Cutting-edge social media research • Assisting with social media tracking and reporting • Building out the social media presence of our clients into untapped networks • Assisting in donation-driven social media campaigns
Qualifications: • 1-2 job/externship/internship/work study experiences. • College junior or senior • Experience on social networks a must; experience producing content for social networks and/or blogs a plus. • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills. • Attention to detail a must. • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize and perform a wide variety of tasks over the course of the workday. • Motivation, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. • Analytical, organizational, and general office skills. • Strong computer competency; proficiency in Word and Excel. • Familiarity with WYSIWYG web content editing, database, desktop publishing, and/or graphic design applications a plus. • Interest in and/or knowledge of nonprofit and humanitarian work.
