We are currently seeking a Controller to be based in our corporate office in Manhattan, New York. This position reports to: COO and VP of Finance
Provide leadership and coordination of company financial planning, debt financing, and budget management functions; Ensure company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles.
Responsibilities: Oversee daily operations of the 11,000 unit multifamily real estate accounting department Prepare monthly closings and Financial Statements: analyze P&L and Balance Sheet accounts, prepare corresponding schedules and month end closing entries for multi-family properties. Manage the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts Responsible for budget variances analysis and monthly executive summary reporting. Manage capital funds allocation: prepare and submit monthly escrow draws, update capital funds schedules, process related documentation. Direct and coordinate debt service payments with external agencies Coordinate commercial billing: prepare Real Estate tax escalation schedules, check correspondence of monthly commercial charges with tenants lease terms. Monitor daily cash flow and prepare cash forecasting reports. Analyze revenues, commissions, and expenses and ensure that they are recorded properly Keep records and prepare statements on company assets with regard to acquisition, sale, retirement, monthly appreciated and depreciated asset values, and other entries Manage the preparation of the official annual report of actual revenues, transfers, and expenses Summarize statements on annual basis for income tax purposes and assist with preparing tax returns and other corporate reporting requirements; assist with financial and tax audits Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of properties Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures Direct financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements. Required: Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections. Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis. Professional communication skills. Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects. Ability to facilitate group meetings and meet deadlines with minimal supervision Knowledge of Yardi Voyager or equivalent accounting software Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint Ability to work collaboratively and on a flexible schedule.
Credentials and Experience: Masters Degree in Finance or Accounting, five to ten years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position, and a CPA.
