Hi my name is Kelby Cumpston. I am a full-time ISU student and a waiter at a local Bloomington restaurant. Having been in the restaurant industry for awhile now I have noticed that there are times where excess packaged food is left collecting dust on shelves. This can happen with mis-orders or over-ordering. Regardless of the reason, this food can have a better home than a back shelf. I have decided to start a program to help clean up the extra food from local businesses and delivering it to the Midwest Food Bank. The Midwest Food Bank serves over 600 agencies in the country helping those in need of food. They also work on a variety of other programs such as suppling disaster relief and feeding local area school children by stuffing their backpacks full of food to take home.
The program I have started is called "The Middleman". This name is appropriate because I have made it my job to be the person in between the Midwest Food Bank and local businesses. The free service I offer is pick-up of any unopened (hot or cold) food product from any local business and deliver it to the Midwest Food Bank. Once the food has been dropped off to their warehouse I will return to the business within a few days with a receipt that one can use for taxation purposes. It only takes a phone call or an email to get me to your business.
I also run a Facebook page that is updated daily with all contributions and a graceful thanks given to all those who I have worked with. Please visit the page and add others in order to get the word out. Simply search "The Middleman".
