Are you a Roman Catholic who has fallen away from the Church? There are so many reasons for one to end up in such a situation. Divorce, abortion, sexual orientation, there are so many reasons why someone may feel that they are no longer called to worship in Roman Catholic pews. Are you some other form of Christian, but you are looking for something more? Maybe we are the community you are looking for.
By way of introduction my name is Father David Martins, and I am an Ordained Priest in the North American Old Catholic Church, as well as the Vocations Director for the Denomination. Our tradition began in Utrecht, in Holland after a dispute between The Holy Roman Emperor and the Pope over who could consecrate Bishops., which was solidified in the Thirteenth Century. During the Reformation the Church in Holland was driven underground, and the Old Catholic Church was solidified at the time of the First Vatican Council, when Papal Infallibility was decreed. The denomination has spread to North America, and with great strength in the last decade.
As a growing denomination, our clergy, in addition to working a secular job, work in various forms of ministry, and from this ministry, Parishes are formed. Our Parish communities celebrate the Seven Sacraments, and offer them to all who seek to receive them. We believe in an open table at Communion, and we do not discriminate based on marital history, sexual orientation, or any other of the many factors that arise in the reality of the experience of life. Our Clergy are not required to be Celibate, we support the Ordination of women, and we are in full communion with various Churches throughout the world. Essentially, our goal is to celebrate the traditional Catholic faith, in a contemporary world. Our goal is to bring all our Parishioners into an intimate, and personal relationship with Christ, not to judge anyone based on who they are, or the history they come from.
The reason I am writing this, is to inform you that a Community is forming in Rhode Island of men and women, regardless of sexual orientation, marital history, past religious practice, (or lack thereof). As this community grows I wanted you to be informed that we are out here, and it begin to establish contact with those who may find such a worship experience appealing.
