JOB TITLE and DESCRIPTION: Companion Home Provider who will provide 24-hour live in support for a 25 year old man with Classic Autism. Understands teaching modalities for people with autism, able to plan and make decisions quickly.
IN DEPTH JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a 24-hour lifestyle career. You may live in your current home if appropriate, or rent a pre-approved home with the individual. This could be a shared position between 2 caregivers, with the possibility/ flexibility of working 3 days on and 3 days off. This lifestyle career encompasses all aspects of daily living; which include 24-hour instruction and support of tasks such as cooking, shopping, preparing GF/CF meals, personal and hygienic needs, recreational activities, helping to develop and implement the ISP and Positive Behavior Support Plan, and other specific goals, schedules and routines. Some coordination of respite care providers is also required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: A contract with DSHS through the Department of Developmental Disabilities.
JOB RELATED EXPERIENCE NEEDED: You must have experience either as a care giver or respite care provider with some form of contact with people who experience autism or other disability, or as a teacher, para-educator etc. The ideal CHP would be a couple with the male as the primary caregiver due to the physical, hygiene, community and leisure needs. While the other person could provide additional support at key times such as meal prep, transitions etc.
STATE REQUIREMENTS: Must reside in the state of Washington. If a resident of Washington less than 3 years, then you will be finger printed. Must pass: criminal background check, CPR, and blood-borne pathogens class. Must have a min. of GED, and speak fluent English. Reliable transportation, with automobile insurance. As an independent contractor, you will need to meet the reporting and training needs of an independent contractor. No other employment is allowed, as the monitoring, teaching, and care giving of this individual is the Job.
INDIVIDUAL AND CLIENT SPECIFIC NEEDS: Consistent and predictable structure every day. The ability to ride a bike, run, swim, and walk 3-4 miles daily is essential. Teach, train and implement daily schedules, job tasks, and routines while providing a person-centered lifestyle based on the needs of the individual. This individual moves quickly, is very active and does not care for children. Sensitivity to emotional needs and a firm understanding of Autism and how autism impacts the individual is a vital quality for this position.
TRAINING AND SUPPORTS GIVEN: In collaboration with the individualís family and outside resources, you will have ongoing support and training on the best practice methodologies in Autism. Ongoing guidance from parents and legal guardians and from specialists in the field of Autism as needed. The ability to adapt to, and follow the instruction of these supporting individuals is critical to a successful Companion Home and positive outcome for the client.
COMPENSATION: Companion Home Providers earn between $5000 to 5500 per month through a contract with DSHS and the DDD. The CHP will receive between 75-100 hours of respite care per month. Expected contractual commitment is at least 3 years. Please email resume to the above.
