Job Purpose:
Lead project teams to improve critical business processes that drive financial results. Scope moderately complex projects; develop project plans and business cases. Recruit, train, and lead project team members.

Job Duties:
As with all 6 Sigma Black Belts, individuals in these roles will be asked to train and lead improvement project teams. The Black Belt should be capable of leading projects with an average savings per project of $75,000 and concurrently lead 1-3 projects of this magnitude. The majority of these projects will be of moderate complexity and focused in a single or across few functional areas within the organization.

Lead projects where the subject focus and solutions are moderately complex in nature, availability, and attainability. Lead improvement projects; project leadership includes identifying opportunities, defining and financially justifying projects, launching project teams, using good project management to manage team activities, leading teams to execute projects, tracking project status and results, removing and elevating project barriers, and developing team members. It is also critical to identify integration issues with other projects/processes and coordinate the improvements with the appropriate project/process owners to accomplish the project goals.

Measure results. Manage the development and maintenance of methods and systems for measuring the degree to which the project goals, objectives and metrics are being met. Provide Deployment Champion with the results and take corrective project action as required to improve on results below target.

Recruit and train team members. Identify potential Green and Black Belts and recruit team members in the 6 Sigma infrastructure. Provide the necessary training and coaching to team members to spread the base of 6 Sigma Problem Solving tools.

Integrate improvement projects. Ensure projects are integrated with other business activities and business strategy.

Communicate. Ensure multi-channel communication throughout the organization. This includes ensuring coordination of activities and capturing project case histories that can be re-used for other projects.

This position has significant impact on the success of the 6 Sigma initiatives. The improvements will increase the company’s ability to meet customer expectations, improve quality, reduce cycle times, reduce costs and increase profits.

Must be a results oriented change agent who is an effective business systems thinker. Must be able to manage risk and ambiguity on a project.

Bachelors Degree, preferably in Engineering or Business or an equivalent level of work experience. Three to five years of professional level experience. Prior supervisory experience is a plus. Should have project management skills, team leadership skills and good communication skills. Should have knowledge of other functions that provide inputs regularly, i.e., Product Development, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Accounting, Human Resources, and Operations. Must have the ability to learn and do statistical analysis and have basic computer skills. Automotive manufacturing background a plus.
