Brief
In September of 2009 Cypress Aircraft LLC. and the Aviation Explorer Post 491 teamed up to build a full-scale airplane kit know as a Kitfox 3. The aircraft is a 2-place Light Sport Airplane capable of speeds just under 100mph. Facilitated by the Community Network Foundation, the Explorer Post members (ages 14-18) have built a Kitfox 3. With about nine months of building the aircraft has finally taken form and will be on display at the Scott AFB Air Show on Sep 11/12.

Story
The southern museum of flight and the boy Scouts of America’s “Learning for Life” brought to us the Aviation Exploring Post 491 a group of young people ages 14-18 that explorer different careers in aviation. Exploring careers from piloting, to mechanics, to aerospace engineering. Then in September of 2009 Cypress Aircraft LLC. and the Aviation Explorer Post 491 teamed up to build a full-scale airplane kit know as a Kitfox 3. The aircraft is a 2-place Light Sport Airplane capable of speeds just under 100mph. Facilitated by the Community Network Foundation, the Explorer Post members spent about nine months of building the aircraft that has finally taken form and will be on display at the Scott AFB Air Show on Sep 11/12. This project has been lead by industry professionals serving as mentors in each area of aircraft construction (from welding, to aircraft covering, to avionics, sheet metal fabrication, and upholstery). These mentors work side by side with the youth, demonstrating and teaching the art of the skill that they specialize in. These same mentors lead by chief outreach mechanic Bill Eskew, from SQ Maintenance LLC. and local EAA chapter members, assist the post explorers in performing their skills learned to ensure that the finished aircraft meets strict FAA regulations. Post 491 has finish phase 1 of their aircraft which made its public debut at Sun-N-Fun in April 2010 and by the end of the year their aircraft will be ready to fly.
Now the Aircraft and Community Network Foundation will start the “Connecting Youth with the Future of Aviation” donor drive. Where they and the aircraft will tour to a few select air shows to promote youth programs in aviation and to raise awareness for the Sweeps stakes where the you will be taking donations towards youth programs in aviation, then recording the donor’s names in order to draw from the donors a winner, to receive the completed aircraft built and certified by the youth in 2010. (See rules on our website) suggested donations start at $20 for one chance to win this wonderful aircraft of $50 for three chances.
