Seeking Full Time Intern for the NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY’S PUBLIC PROGRAMS, LIVE from the NYPL. This position begins in August/September 2010 and continues through December (or longer). We are looking for applicants who are available from 10-5pm. If you are interested in a part-time internship, please include your availability in your application.

LIVE from the NYPL is a series created by Director of Public Programs, Paul Holdengraber. The mission is to create cognitive theater and provide a platform for the kinds of provocative conversations, debates and interviews that "agitate the mind". LIVE from the NYPL has welcomed some of the world's most influential thinkers, leaders, authors, historians, artists, and politicians including Salman Rushdie, Günter Grass & Norman Mailer, Bill Clinton & John Hope Franklin, Zadie Smith, Spike Lee, Lou Reed, Wes Anderson, Ryan Adams, Toni Morrison, Barbara Kingsolver, Frank Gehry, Jhumpa Lahiri, Queen Noor, Mary-Louise Parker, Ira Glass, Etgar Keret, Werner Herzog and many others.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

Location: LIVE from the NYPL, the Public Programs series at The New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street, NYC.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing top notch customer service including prompt and professional responses to phone and email queries, developing outreach strategies, assisting with all levels of program logistics, planning and production, daily administrative tasks within the department, maintaining and updating online content, managing media organization including audio, video and transcript downloads. Evening event duties include greeting speakers, welcoming the patrons, preparing printed materials, handling email signup lists, assisting with the Q&A session, working with box office, and setting up the LIVE info table. Some late nights are required (programs begin at 7pm and end at about 8:30pm). For the Fall 2010 Season, LIVE will host about 15 programs.

Requirements: Please apply if you are: self-motivated, passionate about the arts and want to learn more about event production, detail oriented, highly organized, pro-active (with sharp problem solving skills), and interested in working in a demanding, fast paced environment with high exposure to literature, the publishing world, prominent cultural figures and intellectual content. We are looking for team players who want to work hard to bring ideas to life at The New York Public Library.
Applicants should be proficient in MS Office and possess competent research, social media and networking skills. We are interested in your ideas for outreach and outreach development. Experience in Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
We welcome applications from both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The length of the internship is one full season (4 to 6 months). This is a full time internship. If you have specific scheduling requirements, or would like to work part time, we are happy to discuss your needs.
