ORGANIZATION PumpWorks is a 501c3 nonprofit ministry committed to raising a generation of urban Christians in Northeast Portland through literacy and academic training, relational mentoring, and spiritual development.
PROGRAM The PumpWorks Children’s Theater (PCT) is an afterschool program for elementary students in the Woodlawn and surrounding neighborhoods of Northeast Portland. Interns provide children with one-on-one homework tutoring, stagecraft skill development, and biblical teaching. PCT runs Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30-5:30pm, October through March.
REQUIREMENTS Applicants must have a strong Christian faith and hold active membership in a local church. Applicants must have a vibrant and compassionate personality capable of supervising 30 children; be a skilled and experienced performer able to sing and act in a children’s stage musical; and be 20 years of age or older. The application process includes a background check and an audition.
COMPENSATION * Up to $2000. (Fundraising required.) Fully-funded interns earn the equivalent of roughly $11.40/hour.
* PumpWorks provides an $800 matching stipend; Interns may raise up to $1200 of support.
* Additionally, some universities and colleges may offer scholarships or academic credit for this internship.
TIMEFRAME * You must be available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-6pm, October 2010 through March 2011. (Except school holidays.)
* Additional availability will be required for training in September and during performance week in March.
* This 6-month internship comprises 175 hours over 22 weeks.
