Department Manager Structural, Senior Project Manager

Purpose of Job:
This position is responsible for overseeing the accurate design and development of the structural component of all projects our Architectural Department is developing. In addition, if and when time permits, the department manager will act as a Senior Project Manager. This person should have the ability to make authoritative decisions and recommendations of significant impact on the firm’s structural engineering activities. Initiates and maintains contacts with key project managers and officials of other organizations. Requires skill in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues. The individual will demonstrate creativity, foresight, and maturity in engineering judgment. This person will also assume responsibility for the efficiency and profitability of the department.

Educational Requirements: Bachelor Science in Engineering and an M.S. as well
Licenses Required: P.E. license in State of New Jersey as well as the ability to obtain licenses in other states that we may be working in.
Software Required: STAAD, RAM, ENERCALC

Experience Required:
Minimum of six to ten years of similar experience in a management position with having managed staff in all aspects of Structural Engineering and the ability to manager project staffing, scheduling and technical aspects of the project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
In the role of department manager, this person is responsible for the following areas:
• Manage, direct and supervise efforts of assigned staff
• Oversee the development of all necessary structural drawings
• Coordinate and manage integration with project managers within the firm
• Oversee all Structural engineering studies to make certain the objectives are met
• Ability to “sell” concept to client
• Understanding the client’s objectives, budgets and schedule
• When required, serve as the primary client contact on the Structural portion of the project
• Create an environment that will allow the structural group to grow on its own while performing engineering for both our own projects as well as future structural clients.
• Review and approve staff time sheets, expense reports and performance.
