I'm forming a Women's Baseball Team to be based in Spokane and travel to both women's and/or men's tournaments, and play locally in the "men's" league. Additionally, the BIG plan is to start a women's baseball LEAGUE. We'll need 3-4 teams to make it interesting. This is REAL Baseball, played on regulation fields. To play in Women's Tournaments and the proposed Spokane Women's Baseball League, you must be 16 or older, but 13+ can practice with the teams and participate in scrimmages at the discretion of parents and coaches. To play in National and local men's tournaments and leagues, you must be 18+. There is NO upper age limit. Grab your cleats, glove and bat and head out to the field! The only thing required is a love of the game and your own basic equipment.
Our initial goal is to recruit a team for a national men's tournament in Florida in early to mid-November. I've been, and it's a blast! Florida is GREAT in November. : )
No experience is necessary, but baseball /softball experience (fastpitch or slow-pitch) is very helpful. Pitchers and catchers are always in demand. If I get enough responses, we'll start practicing in a couple of weeks, but could start easy workouts, throwing, etc. before that. If we get a ton of girls, we'll have tryouts for the travel team, and if we have enough, tentative teams for local play will be formed. Scrimmages could start right away.
I will need to hear from at least 15 women to get the ball rolling on this, so grab a friend, a daughter, daughter-in-law, cousin, niece, a mother or even a granddaughter or grandmother and get yourself on the field! E-mail me if you're interested or even just curious. Women's baseball is played all over the world, and we have a long history in the game, just not as much in recent years!
I will respond to everyone. Let's play ball, Ladies! Let's make a Spokane "League of Our Own"!
