Hughes Associates, Inc. (HAI) is seeking an energetic and motivated licensed engineer to manage our Chicago, IL office. Successful candidates will play a very active role in the continued development of HAI and will work closely with many of the world’s leading professionals developing innovative, performance based design solutions for a wide range of projects and clients.
This is an excellent opportunity for qualified engineers to develop their career within one of the leading international fire protection engineering firms with additional offices throughout the United States.
Responsibilities include the management and implementation of a wide variety of engineering design and consulting projects. Along with preparing and directing others in the design and specifications for fire protection systems, you will:
• Conduct Building and Fire Code reviews and analyses
• Provide fire loss investigations and litigation support
• Prepare and present technical reports and presentations
• Perform an active role in Code and Standards Technical committees and local trade organizations
• Plan and direct engineering activities within local office, including distribution of workload, scheduling, and resources
• Manage business development responsibilities and technical staff recruitment

The position requires a B.S. degree from an accredited engineering program with 10+ years of proven fire protection engineering and project management experience, with at least 5 years in the Chicago area. Extensive building code and design experience in fire alarm and sprinkler design is a requirement. Candidate must be a registered professional engineer (Illinois license preferred).

Successful candidates will have excellent report writing, English speaking and interpersonal skills. They should also have an ability to present clear and technically sound fire protection engineering strategies, and have good negotiating skills.
