Coordinate Literacy programs, ensure availability of resources, support instructors and act as liaison with funding sources. Participate on site at Saturday and evening programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Develops the curriculum for ESL contextualized programs. 2. Selects books and materials for the instruction program. 3. Coordinates and supports teachers during program with needs for copies, materials, technology. 4. Communicates with students and motivates them to learn and stick to the program. 5. Prepares flyers, press releases. 6. Communicates with media, local unions, stakeholders, and networks throughout the community. 7. Prepares reports and evaluations of programs. 8. Primary Liaison with Funding sources relative to these specific programs. 9. Continuously expands resources including fiscal resources. 10. Attends workshops on literacy and keeps abreast of trends in the community. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • Bachelors degree in Education or MA • 3+ years of experience in an administrative/coordinating capacity • Knowledge of Literacy programs and/or the community being served • Experience in a Non-Profit environment desirable • Ability to communicate and interact with a diverse population • Ability to motivate others and foster commitment and a desire to learn • Strong organizational and problem solving skills; patience and compassion. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Resourceful, able to change direction quickly
• Proficient in Microsoft Office • Creative skills to market program and design material • Ability to create rapport and develop good relationships on phone and in person • Demonstrated familiarity with employment, training, job placement, and workforce development programs and services in the Hartford region. • Familiarity with the conditions, residents, and employers of the Hartford region. • Own transportation required. • Lift or move up to 25 pounds • Walk up and down stairs
