HELLO and thank you for visiting my post. If you're reading this then I'm guessing that you're probably feeling some sort of discomfort either physically or emotionally. Perhaps your neck and shoulders are stiff and achy or is it your low back? Or maybe you've been gripped by anxiety and worry and your belly feels like one big emotional knot? Did I guess right? I invite you right now to bring your awareness down into your body. Do an internal scan from your head to your toes. What do you notice? Is there a sensation present in any particular part of your body? Any tension, tightness, tingling? Perhaps there's an emotional quality like "heaviness", "jittery", sadness or fear? Whatever you're experiencing, see if you can allow yourself to simply acknowledge it without judgment- without trying to figure it out, without analyzing it, without labeling it or turning it into a problem- just hold it lovingly in your awareness- allow yourself to simply BE WITH what you notice. Say "hello" to it. No, I'm not kidding! Say HELLO and breathe into it for just a few moments..... Please stop reading, close your eyes and try this exercise for the next few moments (1-2 minutes or longer if you like)... then continue reading if you choose..........
Are you still with me? Congratulations! By participating in this simple yet powerful exercise you have most likely experienced what eludes most of the American population... being Present in your body. Most people go through life disconnected from their body and feelings. As a culture, our minds have become obsessed with thinking and doing, doing and thinking leaving little or no time for mindful introspection and quiet reflection. Most of us are stressed out, sleep deprived, overworked, and undernourished either physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually. From a young age, we're taught to suppress our feelings, ignore our bodies, push through the pain and tune out the wisdom of our bodies "felt senses". This lack of body awareness and emotional connection eventually leads to the manifestation of illness and disease. Those who get sick are often shocked to learn that they have cancer or some other life threatening illness. To them it seems like it just "happened overnight". They don't correlate or acknowledge that their years of poor dietary choices, lack of movement, unresolved emotional issues and overall self-neglect lead to their condition.
I'm a Body-Centered Psychotherapist and NYS Licensed Massage Therapist. I've been helping members of our community live life with less stress, more self-awareness and body-mind consciousness for 15 years. I'm a Practitioner of the Hakomi Method of Body-Centered Psychotherapy and P.E.E.R. Counseling (Primary Emotional Energy Recovery: Deep Emotional Healing). I'm also a skilled Bodyworker practicing Swedish and Oriental forms of Therapeutic Massage, Deep Tissue Bodywork and Reiki Energy Work.
BODY-MIND INTEGRATION: These sessions are for the conscious-minded individual seeking personal growth and conscious development. Unlike traditional “talk therapy”, this work is experiential in nature and integrates the body, mind and emotions into the healing process. It provides a space of non-judgment and offers supportive coaching while working with the strong emotions that often come with change. Each session is focused around developing Mindfulness (the ability to observe one's inner world of thoughts, feelings, impulses, sensations, memories, etc) as we explore what's active in the present moment. Using movement, breath work, vocalization, role-play, emotional release techniques and other methods you will begin to; release the emotional blocks which hold you back from achieving your goals, gain insight into the patterns of your life situation, align with your desires and integrate new ways of experiencing your Self in the world.
THERAPEUTIC BODYWORK: Being one of the oldest of the Healing Arts, Massage is one of the best resources for our overall quality of health & Well-Being. When used regularly massage is an effective way to promote, maintain and restore health, all of which aid in disease prevention. To be touched in a positive nurturing way is a basic human need. Touch connects us to others but more importantly, it connects us to our Self. The healing energy of massage soothes stressful mental and emotional states, nourishes the body, and reconnects us to our body's Inner Wisdom. The Holistic approach of Massage revitalizes our energy centers and elicits the felt sense of openness, grounding and balance. If you're a health conscious individual in need of effective bodywork for purposes of preventive health maintenance, injury recovery, stress reduction, or general Well-Being, then look no further. My approach is intuitively based, spiritually centered and grounded in a deep respect for each person I work with.
