The Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning is seeking a full-time Assistant Program Officer to develop and implement programming through the Partnership’s Philanthropy Education and Service-Learning Initiative with specific focus on the tween and teen population.

These programs are dedicated to the principles of tikkun olam, tzedakah and gemilut hassadim, teaching Jewish teens in the Greater Washington area responsible, effective philanthropy through a variety of experiential ways.
The primary responsibilities of this position include coordination of several youth philanthropy groups in MD, DC & VA, teen program development for community-wide service-learning events and collaborative programs in philanthropy education and service-learning with agencies, congregations, camps and youth groups.
Program responsibilities include:
o Creating engaging Jewish values-based educational materials relating to community needs
o Coordinating teen philanthropy groups, which involves:
o Communicating with program participants, families, group facilitators, grant recipients and colleagues
o Arranging site logistics with administrative support including transportation, meeting venues, and other session needs (A/V equipment, etc.)
o Helping to develop and implement a recruitment plan for MD, DC and VA
o Providing support and training to each philanthropy group’s adult facilitator team
o Taking a lead role in planning and implementing:
o community-wide service-learning programs for teens;
o family-based service-learning programs; and
o inclusive service-learning programs with both typical teens and teens/adults with developmental disabilities as participating volunteers;
o Offering meaningful leadership training and opportunities to the Teen Council, a teen-led advisory body that gives guidance and feedback to the Partnership staff members
o Providing guidance and training to Jewish education professionals and teen leaders about implementing effective service-learning models.

• Collaborating with community partners (i.e. congregations, youth groups and other community organizations) on program and resource development to increase philanthropy education and meaningful service-learning opportunities throughout the local Jewish community
• Developing and sustaining relationships with schools, religious schools, youth groups, and other community organizations in order to reach out to and engage youth
• Serving as liaison between the Partnership and agencies applying for grants or providing volunteer/service-learning opportunities (e.g. religious, secular and interfaith; local counties and JConnect).
• Assisting in creating evaluations for program development and assessment

• Bachelor’s Degree required;
• Experience (volunteer or paid) in the fields of nonprofits and/or education required;
• Experience working with and motivating teens is essential;
• Judaic knowledge and ability to teach strongly preferred;
• Strong written and oral communications, interpersonal and organizational skills, and experience with program management;
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative atmosphere;
• High level of energy, initiative, creativity and detail-orientation;
• Microsoft Office proficiency; and
• Flexibility in work schedule, as some Sundays (approximately two per month) and evenings are required.
