Organization Foodlink, Inc., is a vibrant not-for-profit organization in Rochester, NY. As a Feeding America regional food bank, Foodlink rescues and redistributes more than 10 million pounds of food annually to a network of 450 member agencies in a 10-county area in Central and Western New York. Our vision is to end hunger, build self-sufficiency, and foster nutritional wellness.
We are seeking motivated, creative, and health-minded volunteers to assist with the Kids CAN! program, a community-based nutrition education program. Volunteers will aid in implementation of Kids CAN! (Cooking, Activity, and Nutrition) including cooking, physical activity, and nutrition lessons with children ages 2-15. Each lesson is approximately 1-1 ½ hours long, plus some set-up and clean-up. Responsibilities will include working with the Foodlink Nutrition Educator to engage groups of children in hands-on cooking skill building and age-appropriate activities.
Critical Skills • Strong interest in nutrition, cooking, and physical activity • Ability and interest in working with children ages 2-10 • Commitment to the mission of promoting health in underserved Rochester communities • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds • Engaging and enthusiastic teacher / engager of elementary school youth • Flexible and adaptable to unexpected situations, resourceful and creative • Organizational and time management skills • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members • Ability & willingness to travel to different neighborhoods in Rochester, NY • Reliable transportation & Drivers License • Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages a plus
