POSITION TITLE: Director of Development

Junior Achievement (JA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and preparing youth to succeed in the global economy. We work in partnership with schools and businesses to improve student knowledge in the areas of business, economics, careers and financial literacy. The organizationís key initiatives center around programs (they are the vehicle to realize our mission), fund development (the means by which we pay for the programs) and people (the beneficiaries of our work). In everything JA does, from raising funds, to recruiting volunteers and implementing programs, the organization remains focused on the goal to positively impact young people throughout Oregon and SW Washington.

Junior Achievement of Oregon and SW Washington boasts a history of nearly six consecutive decades of operation, and enjoys well-established relationships with hundreds of local businesses and schools. A 42-person Board of Directors comprised of senior level business and education leaders from throughout the area governs the organization. In the 2009-2010 school year, Junior Achievement will serve more than 35,000 K-12 students in 1,500 classrooms at public and private schools throughout Oregon and SW Washington. An estimated 3,230 volunteers from business and industry will give an average of 10 hours each in an effort to reach these students.

This position will manage the organizationís annual donor campaigns including work with corporations, foundations and individuals. The position also works to fund special projects/campaigns along with the President and support special events along with the Director of Events. The position also has primary responsibility for management of the donor data base and other donor records, and is a liaison to Board Committees.

The competitive candidate will possess the following:
1. The ability to self-manage toward specific results in a high-paced environment.
2. Excellent organizational skills demonstrated by an ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects to full completion while achieving stated revenue goals.
3. The ability to produce high quality sales proposals and campaign collateral.
4. Strong public speaking skills demonstrated by the ability to confidently speak to and motivate a variety of volunteer and donor constituents in groups small and large.
5. The ability to lead revenue growth demonstrated by a track record of growing sales/revenues in past work.

1. Organizes and implements successful donor campaigns utilizing fellow staff and members of the Board of Directors to ensure meeting revenue goal. Clarifies, ranks and assigns prospects to appropriate volunteers and staff for soliciting. Follows up on all assigned prospects. Assures data base is operational.
2. Recognizes leadership and donors by developing donor recognition initiatives.
3. Secures new revenue by researching and soliciting corporate, foundation and individual donors whose interest and priorities match projects and programs needing funding. Develops and updates necessary materials and tools for successful funding.
4. Works in collaboration with staff responsible for special events.
5. Assists in developing a budget for all development activities.
6. Works closely with the Development-related Board Committee. Directs materials preparation for Board and Committee meetings.

Masterís degree preferred, Bachelorís degree or equivalent required. Minimum of ten years experience in nonprofit development including working with corporations. Strong command of Microsoft Office products. Graphic design skills highly preferred.
