Since 1987, the St John Learning Center has provided free computer classes to the near east side of Columbus. We are a small nonprofit that has reached thousands of adult learners. Most of our students are trying to improve their computer skills to advance their careers, find new employment or personal development. In addition we offer free GED classes and adult literacy programs.
We are currently looking for new volunteer instructors to facilitate classes in:
Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel Microsoft PowerPoint Basic Internet Basic Computers
Our classes are offered during the day and some evenings. Our programs are free and open to the public and are dependent on finding good volunteer instructors. If you are looking for an opportunity to give back to the community or develop your public speaking/presentation skills please consider volunteering with us.
Facilitators should be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite of software (PC) and basic PC operations Be committed to helping teach others to learn how to use these programs in a professional environment Be flexible with the needs of adult learners - patience is key requirement Commit to teaching 1 class a quarter. (Most classes meet from between four to six sessions) Attend the quarterly instructor meeting Enjoy working with adults
All our volunteer instructors will go through a facilitation seminar and be given lesson plans to follow. You do not need to be an expert just somebody who has a good understanding of the software programs and a desire to help other develop their skills.
