Are you formerly homeless, or know somebody who is, and are you willing to share your story with others?
Or maybe you want to enhance your public speaking skills?
The Faces of Homelessness Speakers’ Bureau is a national program sponsored by the National Coalition for the Homeless that raises awareness and sensitivity for those experiencing homelessness.
About the Speakers' Bureau
Faces of Homelessness provides a forum for currently and formerly homeless individuals to educate others by sharing their personal experiences with homelessness. Combining panelists' personal stories with local and national homeless statistics, our presentations break down stereotypes and foster a greater awareness of the socioeconomic conditions that contribute to and exacerbate poverty and homelessness in the United States. Through education we strive to inspire community involvement in the fight to end homelessness on the local, state and national levels.
This program was started in response to a significant increase in crimes committed against the homeless by young adults and children as young as 10 years old.
Because of the common lack of understanding about the condition of homelessness, it is important that we provide a clearer understanding of its causes. We have found our presentation to be an invaluable education experience for youth and adults, because it is an uncommon opportunity to have an open dialogue with individuals who have experienced homelessness.
