There are many versions of finishing, separation and classification sluices or equipment that currently exist for extracting gold from the raw material that a prospector has collected during dredging, shoveling and/or sniping activities.
Most of these separation tools work well for their particular set function but each alone will not have the capability than this separation tool has to provide for general performance, operation, portability, and versatility under various conditions.

The SLUICE-IN-A-BOX finishing/separation sluice offered on this page is the latest innovation that uses out-of-the-box thinking to provide the recreational gold prospector with a portable, in-the-box tool for superior material processing and separation at home or in the field.

The SLUICE-IN-A-BOX bench top sluice beds incorporate many and varied flow obstacles that will better simulate what nature does in a stream when it allows gold to drop out of a running water flow to become trapped under, behind or within a waterway structure.

The complete SLUICE-IN-A-BOX system offered encompasses the ability to set up either on a bench top or in the field for on-site material separation while addressing many of the common design oversights encountered with the other separation/finishing equipment designs already on the market.

Some of this tool's design aspects that deserve to be highlighted are:

- 36" overall sluice bed combined length in an over/under folding switchback configuration.
- Combines five material separation/trap mechanisms rather than just one or two types.
(Low profile ribs, straight "bar" riffles, "boil hole" riffles, ribbed carpet, and expanded metal)
- Tsunami 500GPH 12V DC water pump for more than adequate water flow and control.
- Water feed that can be adjusted for both flow rate as well as material impingement angle.
- The storage and transport box is the water sump with a removable tailings capture tray.
- Can be set up and used in the field, the backyard or on a bench for at home operation.
- Recycles water without tailings loss or material interference with pump operation.
- Effective recycle operation with as little as 2 gallons of water (4 - 5 gallon sump capacity).
- Dual feed water valve with a wash down hose that may be used in tandem or separately.
- Folding legs built on the lid to provide for a convenient, level open lid/shelf area to place various tools.
- Designed to be very portable and easily set up.
- Compact, lightweight construction at a nominal 7 pounds weight (without water).

Pre-classified material is fed (wet or dry) to the water inlet impingement point at the head of the first/upper sluice bed.

The material being fed will initially encounter a "boil hole" riffle system. These boil holes will capture the larger gold pickers and smaller nuggets at the head of the sluice for ready retrieval as the material is fed or at cleanup.

The fed material further encounters additional low profile ribbed mat with spaced, bar riffles that capture gold which has passed or escaped the initial boil holes at the head of the sluice bed.

The low profile ribbed matting continues to the end of the first sluice bed where the remaining material flowing through will then fall into a second, lower sluice bed.

The second/lower sluice bed starts with a section of expanded metal overlayed on ribbed carpet at the head of the bed to capture additional heavies that might get that far.

Finally the material will flow over the ribbed carpet for the rest of the run and ultimately exit the sluice.

Ultimately, the tailings end up in a catch pan and may be further reprocessed through the sluice, with alternate processing equipment or set aside.

The following video provides a general demonstration of the separation and operational aspects of the SLUICE-IN-A-BOX concept:

The only items that must be provided by the operator will be a place to work, two or more gallons of water, a 12 Volt DC / 1.8 A power source and, of course, some material to process gold from.
