Tutor for Computer Science / Programming / Java / Python. Starting this summer, I will be (home) tutoring students for Advanced Placement Computer Science exam. I am a graduate student (male) at Washington University. I am happy to start with complete novices and assume that my students have no prior knowledge or experience in programming. As per the AP Comp Sc A exam guidelines, I emphasize on object-oriented programming methodology, program design, implementation and analysis using Java. Concentration on problem solving through abstraction, decomposition, and encapsulation, including the study of standard data structures and algorithms. Also, I will familiarize the student with the use of standard Java classes listed in the AP Java subset. Programming is learnt by doing, and so I expect the student to spend some time practicing the programming on his/her own. Also, I can provide the appropriate study material. I can cover the entire syllabus in 3 months (+/-2 weeks), considering 4 contact hours per week.
Besides this, I also tutor for undergraduate (freshmen) courses in Computer Science involving (object oriented) programming using Java or Python. Best matches are CSCI 150 at SLU and CSE 131 at WashU.
I charge $25/hr for individual tutoring and $20/hr (or less) per student for a group of 2 or 3. Sites in and around Central West End, SLU campus, WashU campus or within 1 mile of any MetroLink station are preferable.
